It centers around an incident where a photorealistic image of a missile attack, generated by AI, was utilized without proper attribution in online publications. The video delves into the transformative shift from traditional to algorithmic image creation, emphasizing the dynamic and fluid nature of the resulting images, which challenge conventional forms of representation. Embedded within this exploration are broader considerations related to the histori- cal and invisible dimensions within images. Aligned with posthuman perspectives, the video prompts contemplation on the unseen forces shaping these images and challenges established norms within the image politics and the covert dynamics in the production of AI-generated imagery. It aims to shed light on issues such as extractivism and accelerationism, sparking a thoughtful discourse within the realm of image creation. Overall, the video project engages in a profound examination of the transformative potential and ethical implications of AI-generated visual content within contemporary society. Starting from the cosmological phenomenon, the film follows light into the Age of »EnLightenment«, which hoped to replace the divine miracle with physical and optical lawsThe wonder of the visible world turns into a scientific mystery to be solved. Technological development not only made possible the expansion of the visible world but penetrated deeper into matter than ever seemed conceivable to the eye. The technological light of knowledge not only displaced religious perspectives yet appeared as a promise on the horizon. From here technology mediates itself as a tool and zenith at the same time. The question of the future is no longer a question of time but a question of the technology in which the future is to lie. From the question of ethics, which reflected the nature of human action, an ethics of technological provenance is generated. Do the possibilities associated with technological means and advances legitimize their use? Frame by frame, the film moves from one light phenomenon to the next, and a whispered text comments on the questions that cannot be separated from this development. Each further step in technological development seems to exacerbate the contradiction between cure and weapon, between long-sought solution and destruction. Both, Hiroshima and Chernobyl, have seemingly endless energy reserves and seemingly endless consequences for the future. The future is no longer an unknown quantity but has in fact already begun. The effects of technological means are already certain, the only unanswered question is how they can be brought under control and whether and in what form man will still be present in this future. The irradiated bodies will continue to radiate beyond death. The former question of how to protect the present from an unknown future has changed into the question of how to protect the future from our technological present. The question of technology turns out to be primarily a question of ethics and the film pleads aesthetically not to put technology in the light detached from philosophical questions. +0000 Kristina Cyan https://kristinacyan.com/Too-Close-to-See Too Close to See 2021 / video 7.38 min sound 5.1 The project highly questions the emergence and re-enforcement of modernist distinctions between public and private spaces and inherent body politics. Focusing on questions of hybridity and blind spots the project aims to reflect those dichotomies and re-establishment heteronormative modes of gender roles. The installation will try to outline zones of vulnerability within the spectrum of feminist discourses. The film material from the Amaterinen* project (archive of Film Museum Vienna), which I researched, included lots of shots, depicting the filmmakers with their cameras. The camera was not only a tool of production but also a tool of emancipation and representation, allowing women to cross the lines of privacy and turn private spaces into a political agenda. That's why I selected mainly those parts that perform the translation of distinct territories into hybrid, semi-public semi-private spaces. I tried to montage a dialogue between the found footage and our presence, as well as trying to reflect the meaning of the camera, from a specialist tool to everyday and permanently available elements. I also tried to reflect on the early moments of emancipation and the actual politics of surveillance, again defining the public and private space as a territory of control.I highlighted one of the critical views on technology, outlining how the growing possibility of digital systems questions the ethical questions of bodily presence,&nbsp;safety, privacy, and measurements of borders. Accordingly, those distinct spaces have (historically) generated particular and expected sets of behaviour and body politics - segregating individual habits and forms of living at home from the representational articulations of the body in the public domain. No need to say that the "private" domain is in itself a product of a public and ideologically framed assignment (reflected in the echoes of "private&nbsp;is the political"). The project investigates those heteronormative distinctions and&nbsp;looks for the blind spots in between, for the models of behaviour beyond the&nbsp;public-private dialectics, maybe even questions the adequacy of these concepts. That means they have to withstand a permanent overload and are exposed to balancing an impossible weight of different challenges at the same time. No need to say that this unequal treatment and the disbalances are increasing continuously and affect a majority of people worldwide.The project takes this impossibility and the ways to stand or hold out the manifold of challenges into account, by working with women from different social and economic backgrounds–inviting them to perform a way of balancing objects that are not only abstractly representing the variety of weights and burdens but they are as well built in a way that makes it even more difficult to keep them up. The everyday of women and their permanent overcharge without appropriate charges will be transformed into a form of body language and performance that will be taped by video.The video presented next to the objects that the women tried to balance, a kind of sculptural witness and representative of the manifold of burdens that women are confronted with. For me, the architectural motif of caryatides–figures of women as columns carrying the architecture on their heads–are perfect metaphors for carrying&nbsp;unbearable weights. As well ancient and contemporary ways of cultural habits&nbsp;like women carrying loads on their heads, represent the continuity of the burdens&nbsp;that society loads onto the shoulders and minds of women, permanently exposed to&nbsp;losing balance and collapse. The preface tells how the consciousness of the masses and the course of history change through the manipulation of behaviour. With a reference to Bernays and the psychoanalyst.The project is a laboratory in which objects and research protocols are collected, a tomogram, DNA samples, sketches of plants from alchemisrty atlas - everything can cause confusion when confronted with a scientific&nbsp;question. Gradually, plunging into the details of the description, visually and&nbsp;through the mediator's description the viewer can understand that he himself&nbsp;is the main object of research, and it is
